Parents of schoolchildren warned after incidents in Brownhills and Aldridge
I notice from a number of sources and circulating social media that schools in Aldridge and Brownhills are warning parents about two incidents where children have been approached by a male in his 20s or 30s in a white BMW X1 car.

Walsall Wood so close, but lose to Hereford
It was a big home match in prospect last Tuesday (9th May 2016) – Walsall Wood entertained leaders Hereford, and despite the fact that the Woodmen battled the visitors well, they despite an early upset, they couldn’t bare the win.2

Finally my bin will go out less than I do…
As predicted here a couple of weeks ago, the announcement by Walsall Council has now been made, and a leaflet is currently being circulated regarding reducing collections of your grey non-recycling bin to once every two weeks – interestingly, the announce meant is directly following the local elections. A Coppice, lots of timber and a little backtracking
The SLS rail tour that took place in 1959 has proven to be a rich seam of material, and has provoked much debate amongst blog readers about the locations of some photos, and just how and where the Diesel Multiple Unit pictured managed to reverse.

Woodmen shoot a failing Star
Last Saturday afternoon (30th April 2016), the Woodmen faced Continental Star at Oak Park, and I think it’s fair to say Walsall Wood sent star home with their reputation in a carrier bag – a thumping five nil win for the Wood lads was a fine finish to the season.

Woodmen refuse to Lye down
Last Thursday evening (8th April 2016) Walsall Wood were at home entertaining Lye Town, and a goalless match was the result – but unusually for a goalless match it was a great game and entertained Bill Shaw despite the late of goal action.

Up around the bend
More here today that goes to show the Venn diagram of history forever curiously overlaps – Ian pell has waded in once more on the subject of the notorious May 1959 rail tour up the Walsall Wood line to the Conduit Colliery – from which a few pictures have emerged over the years and was raised here again last week by Simon Swain with a great new picture.

Anthony ‘Tony’ Hackett – funeral details available
A short while ago it was my sad duty to report the passing of Mr. Anthony ‘Tony’ Hackett, a well loved and respected Brownhills gentleman who spent may years as a local school Caretaker and scout leader – the many touching tributes and kind words about Tony from his friends and former school pupils were lovely and a comfort to his Granddaughter Tara and family

Binned off
Like most of the households in the borough, we’ve received a leaflet from Walsall Council recently in place of the normal bin collection calendar/schedule we normally receive at this time of year – the leaflet says a new calendar won’t be issued until ‘Late summer, 2016’ – I wonder why that might be?

It’s the rail thing
A great one for the train enthusiasts comes in from new Brownhills resident Simon Swain, who’s been doing some great railway history stuff in the South Staffordshire Railway group on Facebook – it seems that the notorious May 1959 rail tour up the Walsall Wood line to the Conduit Colliery – from which a few pictures have emerged over the years – continues to fascinate and unearth new images.

Well, I always say I don’t get much right here and so it was on Saturday last when completely misunderstood the location accompanying a photograph Godfrey Hucker shared from friend of the blog Jean Houghton – what I thought was Coppice Lane was in fact Coppice Side, and the house was not Coombe House, but Big House Farm.

Out on the tiles
You’ll all know that this blog is all about community and the things that bring us all together – and I’m happy to share this appeal from Clayhanger Community Centre who need some help to fix their roof.

Battling Woodmen hold Rocester to a draw
Last Thursday, 31st March 2016 Walsall Wood FC entertained Rochester at Oak Park, and the Woodmen drew with the visitors, continuing the current decent run for the Woodmen.

San’s Kitchen – new manager, same great food!
I see that the wonderful San Brett – of local radio fame – has sadly been suffering poor health of late and has passed management of her popular Brownhills cafe San’s Kitchen over to new manager Adam Brookes – Adam’s sent me details of opening hours and offers he’s got on to tickle your taste buds…

The search for Willian ‘Bill’ Baker – anyone recognise this photo please?
Last year I ran an appeal here to find a chap called William John Baker, once resident in Walsall Wood – well, the person who asked is still searching for him, and has found a photo which I feature above – note that this isn’t the William Edward Baker who used to work at Ryford in Aldridge.

Clayhanger poisonings continue: Baxter the dog has a lucky escape
A timely warning to residents of Clayhanger and further afield that the reported incidents of poisoned bait being left around the village seem to be ongoing still – after the horrid story of Meg, the dog believed to have been poisoned after eating doctored meat on Clayhanger Common and the subsequent discovery of possibly poisoned bait a little while later, comes this awful tale from Facebook user Shannon Vanessa Binding.
