Wanted: A spiritual guide
I’ve been contacted by Sandfields Pumping Station champion and local historian Dave Moore, who’s looking for some help with his next project – readers will remember that Dave worked hard with Brownhills activist Brian Stringer to create an audiobook of Brian’s ‘Clayhanger Kid’ books, and has also made some remarkable video, too.

I am a Fireman to my trade
Some weeks ago, I posted a great video made by Public Historian Dave Moore with local author and activist Brian Stringer, about Brian’s experiences as The Clayhanger Kid, as part of the social historian’s ‘Postcards from the Past’ series.

Making a splash!
You readers really are a remarkable bunch – last Friday, I featured a couple of images posted on social media by Chris Leggett of the Express & Star, as part of their bid to gain funding to digitise and open to the public their photo archive – a huge treasury of newspaper images that current exist in print form only.

The life of Brian
Last week, I posted a great video made by Public Historian Dave Moore with local author and activist Brian Stringer, about Brian’s experiences as The Clayhanger Kid – the video had a very positive response, so Dave has kindly posted a full version for all of Brians fans to enjoy.

A public partnership
The collaboration initiated by this blog between top local history wonk Dave Moore and The Clayhanger Kid himself, Brian Stringer, is proving to be productive indeed – and a couple of days ago, I spotted a beautiful video interview with Brian recorded and produced by Dave. It’s excellent, and you can watch it below.

Can you help The Clayhanger Kid?
I received a message today from friend of the blog and top local campaigner Brian Stringer, author of the best-selling (and now sold out) book The Clayhanger Kid – Brian is in a bit of a pickle – he’s still got people asking for copies of his first book, but sadly, he has none left.

Caught on celluloid
I have something remarkable coming up on the blog tomorrow, a film I’ve been tracking down for a while, and thanks to the immense generosity and kindness of local history stalwarts Brian ‘Clayhanger Kid’ Stringer and the Young David Evans, I can present it here on the net for the community to share and debate.

Walsall Wood FC – 22 years ago…
Here’s something I recently came by in a charity shop in Brownhills – it’s the match day program for Walsall Wood FC versus Raunds Town FC, played at Oak Park at 3pm, Saturday 31st August 1991 The cover price was 40p, and this is a hefty 20 page A4 magazine with lots of content.

Gathering moss
The Clayhanger subsidence and pumping station thread seems to have provoked much interest in the past week – there has been a great deal of reader comment, and I have further bits to add to the story in coming days.

Clocking on
I must admit, the somewhat vexed question of the Council House Clock had slipped my mind – that is, until reader, local history wonk and friend of the blog Andy Dennis wrote to me yesterday.

A note of thanks
I’m not noted for agreeing with the council here on the Brownhills Blog, and have never held back in criticising them. – however, I like to think that when I feel they’ve got it right, it’s appropriate and correct to point it out.
