Catshill Junction bridge – progress, sort of

Much to my surprise, the Canal and River Trust have got moving and effected a repair to the hazardous step from the bridge deck of Catshill Junction Bridge in Brownhills, that I somewhat wryly commented on here a couple of days ago.

Catshill Junction bridge due for repair?

Since it was highlighted by reader John Snape in the thread about the Canal and River Trust’s bizarre installation of steps near Clayhanger, I’ve been pushing them to fix the horrid trip hazard on the north side of the bridge at Catshill Junction, Brownhills.

Brownhills canal indecent exposure incident

Worrying news reaches me of an indecent exposure incident on the canal in Brownhills last Wednesday night (23rd July 2014), when a lady cycling on the towpath between the Pier Street pedestrian Bridge (near Tesco) and Catshill Junction witnessed a naked man on the far side of the canal near the Silver Court Gardens site.

Going back

This is a quick post to draw more attention to the rapidly growing, weird and wonderful Panoramio gallery being created by Brownhills George – Since I last featured George’s work here, he’s added loads more stuff, and it’s breathtaking.

Imperialist blather

It seems Brownhills Community Association, or someone within, its undertaking a little empire building of late. It’s all coming over a bit imperialist to me.

It seems that now, if you want to fish in the canal between Catshill Junction and Chasewater, you are expected to pay Brownhills Community Association £3 per day for the privilege, or £15 for a season ticket.

Canal trust?

Here’s an interesting one from fellow Brownhills historian David Hodgkinson. David has been musing on the fate of a piece of public art erected at Catshill Junction as part of the canal towpath renovations a few years ago. I must … Continue reading

On the cut… A different point of view

After my post earlier today featuring picture of the Brownhills Canal Rally in May, 1975, regular reader David Edwards contacted me via Facebook to say that he had a newspaper article relating to the event in question, which he’d scan … Continue reading

On the cut

I’ve a bit of a treat for canal fans in this week’s old photo feature, but nice as the narrowboats are, it’s the backgrounds that are most interesting to me. All four of these images are held on the excellent … Continue reading

I don’t mean to carp, but…

With a touch of sadness, but no surprise, I noticed on Friday that Rodney, the Walsall Wood fisherman, is still without his fish, somewhat oddly christened ‘Bob’. He’s also been the victim of rather more destructive vandals, who’ve tagged him with … Continue reading
