Up the Ryecroft Junction
Local rail buff Simon Swain has once again been busy with the camera and maps, tracing out the history of the South Staffordshire railway line that used to run from Wychnor near Alrewas to Dudley, but called at Lichfield, Brownhills and Walsall on the way.

One of the final few
Local rail buff Simon Swain has been in touch with a remarkable image of Brownhills recording the very last days of the railway here – just before construction of the Miner Island in 1984.

Action stations
Thanks to Twitter cycling whizz and all round top guy @WolvesOnWheels who tipped me off last week, there’s a Facebook group that’s been featuring a lot of Brownhills, Walsall Wood and Pelsall railway photographs lately, posted by Si Swain.

Museum piece
I’m indebted to reader Tony Wynn, who’s supplied another fascinating piece in the Ralph Ferrie jigsaw. The above story, from 1970, rings a vague bell; we know that Ralph had a garage on or near the old Midland Railway sidings … Continue reading

Station approach
There has been some recent discussion here of the old railway line and former Brownhills West station that used to cross Brownhills Common from Walsall Wood, dismantled in the sixties. A couple of weeks ago, I took a trip up … Continue reading

Station to station
I’ve received a great contribution from long-time reader, contributor and top local history operative John Daft. John, who has been involved with so many local history articles on The Brownhills Blog, has again come up trumps with some local history … Continue reading
