On the beach – the web that’s woven
Here’s a great example of me getting things wrong, and of how local oral history works with the community correcting me – last week I featured the great picture above from Julie Le Moine of herself as a baby with her mum, and ‘uncle’ Paddy (Walker) and ‘auntie’ Clarice’ on a beach in Blackpool in September 1966. Life’s a beach
Here’s a lovely quick one from friend of the blog Julie Le Moine – and it’s a good opportunity to point out to those who’ve supplied images lately that I’m hoping to catch up with that at the weekend, nothing is forgotten.

At silly mid on
A few weeks ago, the young David Evans started exploring the history of Walsall Wood Cricket Club here on the Brownhills Blog, following some great contributions by Julie Le-Moine – steadily, we’re building up a good record of the lost cricket club, which stood where Boundary Close is now, behind St John’s Church and the Library.

When an old cricketer leaves the crease
Following the remarkable and fascinating response to Julie Le-Moine’s enquiry last weekend about a mystery cricket team photo from Walsall Wood, Julie has been good enough to send me another image – this time, it’s her Grandfather Walter Hollender.

Fielding suggestions
Here’s a nice one for the weekend, and I think the Walsall Wood contingent may have a word or two to say about it – this cricket team photo was sent to me earlier in the week by long-time friend of the blog, Julie Le-Moine. Continue reading

Bowled over?
Here’s a quick one for Friday. Reader and top Walsall Wood whizz David Evans has finally managed to get hold of a full copy of the Aerofilms image of Walsall Wood from 1926. This is an interesting one, as it’s not yet listed on the archive of Aerofilms work.

Grace and worship
I seem to be getting a lot of history requests, lately. I love those, and welcome questions about any local topic you want to know about. Last week, I was contacted on Facebook by Julie Le-Moine, from The Crib in … Continue reading
