Get some Iron, man – Ironman hits Chasewater and South Staffordshire this Sunday

Care for a dip? No, me neither…

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that this Sunday (June 18th 2017), the Third Staffordshire Ironman 70.3 Triathlon will be staged, with a 1.2 mile early morning swim in Chasewater being amongst the highlights.

Since the event consists of running and cycling races too, there will be a series of road closures in Staffordshire throughout the day (details on the Ironman website here).

There will be no vehicle access to Chasewater from Saturday afternoon up until the swim event finishes on Sunday. Staffordshire County Council said:

Chasewater Country Park – Swim Course

If you can handle the early Sunday rise the swim starts happen at Chasewater between 07:00 and 08:25 with the final athlete leaving the water at 09:35.

The Chasewater site is completely locked down to traffic so the car parks on the Chasewater site are unavailable. The best plan is to park at Shugborough (see above) and catch the bus to Chasewater. The Holland Park car park on The Parade is available between 04:30 and 10:00 on Sunday morning and is around a 10 min walk to the Chasewater site.

More information here.

There’s been lots of publicity for the event, and I’m interested in reader contributions on the day – photos, reviews etc.

A quick note to those who every event mail me, message me and otherwise complain about the early morning disturbance in the locality: Sorry, but I can’t fix it, can’t help and I fully support the event. The inconvenience is one day a year, relatively minor and over in a few hours.

Any complaints should be directed to the organisers here, I can’t and won’t do anything.

Best of luck to any readers competing!

The event focusses on Shugborough. He’s either well ahead of the pack, or well behind. Image from Ironman UK website.
