Following my request for information to make a list of local Remembrance events, I can again share with readers a list of local Remembrance services taking place locally this Remembrance Sunday, 12th November 2017 – this list will be updated with more info as I get it.

I’d particularly like to thank here all those who have worked so hard to fund road closures for local parades, particularly Ian Neville who has been an absolute dynamo in Brownhills and deserves an award and our thanks – but also Lee Braggington, Molly Lloyd and all the folks in Walsall Wood; the people over in Pelsall who’ve pushed and pushed, and to all the folks from organisations like the British Legion who’ve worked hard to help, too.

You’re all shining stars in our community.

These functions are organised by a diverse range of organisations, nearly all outside the auspices of the local authority, so getting comprehensive information is no small task.

This may not be complete, and details are supplied in good faith. Neither I, or the named readers will be held responsible for inaccuracies in the details provided. We are all human, and this is always quite a tough task.

All events are assumed Sunday Morning 12th November, unless otherwise stated – Lichfield Speakers Corner (Saturday), Walsall Wood parade (Sunday afternoon as always).

• Brownhills: Memorial Hall, November 12 – A parade will start at 10.30am.Martin Littler saidJust to let you know,the Brownhills branch of The Royal British Legion,will be holding their remembrance service,on Sunday November 12th 2017, it will start with the parade starting at Brownhills Memorial just after 10:30 am it will take the route, Lichfield Road into Great Charles Street, Short Street and Church Road, for the Service of Remembrance at St James church Cenotaph Brownhills 11:00 am, after there will be a service in St James Church.There was a great turn out last year,hope we see as many or more this year.
• Walsall Wood: Molly Lloyd said: Walsall Wood Remembrance Parade will be going ahead after a phenomenal effort to raise the cost of employing a road closure firm. The Parade will form up on the Old Oak Park car park at 2.00 pm and march down Lichfield Rd to St. John’s Church for the act of Remembrance followed by a church service. The parade will march back to Oak Park for the dismissal. Everyone welcome.We will remember them.
• Noton Canes: John Preece said: St James’s Church for 10.30am and Norton Canes Methodist Chapel Poplar Street for 5.40pm.

  Remembrance Sunday – Walsall town centre Sunday 12 November 2017Procession to the Carless Memorial and Cenotaph10.05 a.m.Deputy Lieutenant (Professor Rashid Gatrad OBE DL), The Worshipful the Mayor (Councillor Marco Longhi) the Mayoress, Walsall Council Chief Executive, Honorary Freemen of the Borough of Walsall, Clergy, Members of Parliament, Members of Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council, Justices of the Peace, Service Personnel, representatives of societies, public bodies and organisations, veterans of the Sikh community, members of other faith communities, officers of the Council and police escort will assemble at the Council House.10.05 a.m. promptAt this hour the following Units are requested to assemble at HATHERTON ROAD AND HATHERTON STREET.

  10.20 a.m.

  The Mayor, accompanied by members of the Carless family and a representative from the Royal Naval Association, will proceed to the Carless V.C. Memorial and will place a wreath thereon on behalf of the Town.  Others desiring to lay wreaths may then do so.  The Mayor will then return to the entrance of the forecourt of the Council House.

  10.25 a.m.

  The Procession will march to the Cenotaph in the order detailed and by the following route: Lichfield Street, Lower Bridge Street, The Bridge, Bradford Street.

  10.35 a.m.

  The Procession will arrive at the Cenotaph in Bradford Place and form in the roadway round the gardens.  Walsall Sea Cadets will provide a Guard of Honour for the Mayoral Party.

  The Mayoral Party and the clergy will enter the gardens and will take their places ready for the commencement of the Service.

  10.40 a.m.

  The Service, which will be amplified, will be conducted by the Reverend Mark Kinder, Vicar of St. Paul’s The Crossing and St. Luke’s Chuckery.  A sign language interpreter will relay the service for the deaf and will be situated next to the microphone. Anyone wanting to see the interpreter may wish to stand as close to the front as possible.

  All present at the Cenotaph are requested to join in singing the hymns accompanied by The Staffordshire Band and Members of St. Paul’s Church.

• Pelsall: This years Parade in Pelsall will be like no other.  This year it will have 2 distinct parts.See full details here.
  Part 1 will be a March along the High Street from the Village Centre to the War Memorial, it will then muster at the War Memorial, together with the general public for part 2, The Act of Remembrance.To ensure that the parade is conducted in a safe, secure environment for participants and attendees, POPRS have employed an approved Traffic Management Company (TMC) to facilitate the following total road closures:
  1. The High Street at the Village Centre End.
  2. Ashtree Road at its junction with the High Street.
  3. The High Street at its junction with the Norton Road.
  4. The Norton Road, north of the War Memorial, prior to the electronic pedestrian crossing.
  5. The Norton Road south of the War Memorial prior to the junction with Church Road.
  6. Chapel Street at its junction with the Norton Road.
  7. Station Road at its two junctions with the Norton Road.
  8. Station Road at its junction with Railswood Drive.

  PLEASE NOTE:

  CLOSURES 1 & 2 WILL BE IN EFFECT FROM 

  10:00am TO 10:45am

  CLOSURES 3 TO 8 WILL BE IN EFFECT FROM

  10:00am TO 11:30am

• Rushall: Claire Gibbs said: Rushall. Meet at the remembrance stone outside the library at 10:45, short service and silence will be held there. Then a service of remembrance will be held in the little tin church across the road (next to the bookies) for anyone who would like to attend.
• Aldridge: Russell Smith said: Details for Aldridge Remembrance Parade Sunday 12 November leaves community centre at 10.30 with the traditional parade along Leighswood Rood to the Cenotaph for the service of rememberance returning back to the community centre around 11:45 – 12:00 Permanent Road Closure times 10:15 – 12:00 (approx).
• Bloxwich: Thanks to Kate Goodall: To all those attending this year’s Armistice Day Parade Bloxwich… The Parade will muster at 1000hrs on Bloxwich Memorial Club car park. • Willenhall: Thanks to Kate Goodall: All I know about the Willenhall one is that people meet at the clock in the Market Place at 10.15 then process to the cenotaph. I’ll see what I can dig out.
• Short Heath: Thanks to Kate Goodall: Sunday 12th November Remembrance Sunday 10.15am – Assemble at Short Heath Royal British Legion Club, Church Road, WV12 5PT 10.30am – Procession to Lane Head Cenotaph for Service Join us back at the club for drinks All welcome Thank you to the community for your support to keep the parade going
• Burntwood and Chase Terrace: Sue Woodward said:
• St John’s Community Church
  The route is as follows: 10.00 a.m. start at Scouts HQ in Ironstone Road; the parade sets off at 10.15 a.m.; down Ironstone Road left into Cannock Road; left into Water Street; then right into Cross Street left into Rugeley Road and then left into High Street. There will be a short service at the Cenotaph and wreath laying followed by a short service inside the church. The parade will then march back to Scout HQ at approx. 11.45 a.m. and return via High Street and Ironstone Road.Memorial Institute at Burntwood
  The route is as follows: The parade will assemble at 10.00 a.m. at the Memorial Institute; then march along Rugeley Road towards Swan Island, turn left along Lichfield Road, left again up Farewell Lane and finally down Church Road to the Memorial Institute. At the Institute a service will follow which will include the two minute silence and the laying of wreaths. The service should finish at approximately 11.25 a.m.Chasetown
  The route is as follows: The parade will be marching from Burntwood Leisure Centre, setting off at 10.30 a.m. down to the Cenotaph at the bottom of Chasetown High Street where a brief service will be held and the wreath will be laid. The parade will then march onto St Anne’s Church for a service.Christchurch Burntwood
  Sat 11th @ 10.45 am. Short service.
  Sun 12th @ 10 am with walk to Memorial Hall.
• Cannock: Courtney Clews said: Start at bus station set off at 10:30 march into middle of Cannock town to the cenotaph and then go to the church!
  
• Wimblebury and Heath Hayes: Ray Smith said: I am the Clerk for Heath Hayes and Wimblebury Council and it was suggested last year that I should provide the information about our Remembrance Sunday event for your page.
  Basically, 9.30am at the Heath Hayes Constitutional Club, 9.40am walk to St John’s Church, service at 10am and 10.40am walk to Five Ways Island for silence and readings and then back to the Cons Club.
• Great Barr: The Scouts and Guides will present a remembrance parade at St Margaret’s Church, Chapel Lane.The parade will meet at Junction 7 M6 at 10.15am and start at 10.40am, arriving at the church for 10.50am.A morning service will be held at the church and the parade will then proceed to the Holiday Inn.
• Wednesbury: The parade starts at Royal British Legion Wednesbury, Church Hill, at 10.15am, arriving at the War Memorial in Walsall Road in time for the service which starts just before 11am.
• Tipton: The parade forms at Tipton Sports and Social Club, Coneygre Road, at 10.15am, leaving at 10.40am to arrive at the War Memorial at Victoria Park for the service. Northfield Caledonia Pipes and Drums will lead the parade. The parade returns to the social club, which is providing refreshments.
• Lichfield Speakers’ Corner:

  The fallen will be remembered at Lichfield Speakers’ Corner at 11am on Saturday 11 November 2017. There will be a minute’s silence at 11am followed by readings of poems and then the Corner will be open to anyone who wants to read a poem, remember a loved one, or express their feelings about Remembrance Day. Please arrive by 10.55am so that the silence can be fully observed.

  Everyone is welcome to come and join us to acknowledge the sacrifice that was made on our behalf by all of the men and women who gave their lives in the conflicts of war so that we can live our lives in peace.
