Brownhills Gazette November 1989 issue 3 – This was the start of what turned out to be a storming campaign about the condition of Silver Court. Lots more inside, too. Click for a larger version.
Continuing the scans of the Brownhills Gazette – I present issue 3 of the long lost freesheet, from December 1989 for you to peruse and download. I’ve had an incredible response to featuring these long, lost publications here on the blog.
David Evans, very kindly granted access to the archive held by former editor and contributor Brian Stringer, has been assiduously and conscientiously scanning them all. Every single issue. Every few days, I’m going to feature the next in the series. I’ve just compiled the next few into PDFs and I can tell you there are some treats in store – including the only decent photo I’ve ever seen of Holland Park’s lost bandstand.
Cheers to Brian and David for sharing a wonderful thing, that’s part of our community history.

Nice one, thank you chaps.
Thanks all concerned for these articles.
Shows how important the schools were in the community
How things have changed

These old back issues of Brownhills are an absolute gem, thanks to all concerned for their time and trouble in scanning e-mailing and posting, a real source of times gone by…………
Had a cheeky smile to myself when I read on page 2 Brownhills described as “One of the highest rated towns in the country”……….. Some time ago there was an ongoing discussion about the geometry of Silver Court and whether the mapping was right or not and when the 4 additional units had been added, I notice the photograph on the front page (taken 20 years before) shows the different colour of the roof as identified in the original post “Silver Caught”, if accurate the photograph on the first page would be December 1969 there or thereabouts. In an overhead image provided by Bob via I think Areofilms dated June 1963 does show a lot of activity at the end of Silver Court where the additional units were added. I don’t think we ever arrived at a date for the extension of Silver Court but we can assume it was somewhere between June 1963 and December 1969.
Keep up the good work………………..
Peter

Sorry Bob
Not a problem, but please include this link so people can find the rest of it and the story behind it being online.

It concerned me as Brownhills Barry was reblogging it just for cheap hits.
You’re always welcome old chap.
Cheers
Bob
