New Hall Mill: The historic wonder on our doorstep gears up for a new season

New Hall Mill is a splendid place, restored and run by wonderfully dedicated volunteers.

I’m glad to say that Alan Dawson, Friend of New Hall Mill and also of the blog has been in touch to ask if I’d continue to support the Mill’s activities this summer and of course, I’m delighted to do so.

New Hall Mill is a restored and working water mill just outside the centre of Sutton Coldfield that’s a historic and engineering gem that dedicated volunteers have spent many years restoring. Throughout the late spring and summer they have free open days where you can explore the building and grounds and find out how this marvel works – and there are also great stalls, activities and demonstrations at every event. There’s a great tearoom, too!

I can heartily recommend the place – it’s fascinating and I had a great time there on 2015 Spring Bank Holiday Monday – not enough people know about this wonderful building.

There’s also an appeal ongoing for people who may be interested to join the friends of New Hall Mill and help in all sorts of ways – the team need all kinds of expertise from guides to engineering types who may have time to spare. You can contact the Friends via Facebook or their website, links at the foot of the post.

The list of events and open days for 2018 is below, with the first being a little over two weeks away on Sunday, May 13th 2018:

A fantastic place.

More details can be found on the New Hall Mill website – www.newhallmill.org.uk or their Facebook page here.

This is certainly a project worth visiting and supporting – please do pop along if you can.  You can check out a gallery of my photos taken there in 2015. I had a great time.
