To stand, and to remember
Today, Sunday 10th November 2019, is Remembrance Sunday when the people of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth come together to remember those who served, and those serving our country. Not only the ones who paid the ultimate, awful price of … Continue reading

Hundreds of years of immense bravery and unbelievable political folly
Today is of course Armistice Day, Remembrance Sunday and the centenary af the end of World War One – the Great War. Never was a conflict so inappropriately named. All over the country and further afield, men, women and children … Continue reading

War is still hell
I run a variant of this post every year, because my views on Remembrance don’t change, but I feel it’s essential to mark it – and this year I’ve become increasingly disturbed by the way the act of Remembrance, and the symbol of that solemnity – the poppy – seem to have been hijacked by a motley collective of dodgy nationalist groups, a hectoring press and credibility-hungry politicians looking for a cheap headline grabber.

War is hell
This post is a modification of one I made last year – I traditionally post something about Remembrance every year, and it’s increasingly hard to say anything new, as my view doesn’t change on this, the most important day in our national recognition, recollection and reconciliation of our part in the world’s conflicts.

In our name
Every year on this blog, I’ve marked remembrance Sunday with a post, and this one is no different. I think this day, associated events and actions are crucially important. It is only by remembering the cost, that we can consider how to make a better future.

Shall we not remember?
I want to mark remembrance carefully this year. It’s very important to me, but I’ve been alarmed this time around by the apparent desire to make political capital out of the event. I’m also somewhat concerned at the way some … Continue reading

Age shall not weary them.
Remembrance Sunday – if only for a few minutes, please take time out to consider those that gave, and those who may yet give their lives for us to live in peace and prosperity today. From the fields of Flandria … Continue reading
