Images from up the cut

Last week I spent a fascinating (and rather frustrating) evening delving through the Canal and River Trust photo archive, which is always a curate’s egg: Whilst there are many stunning images (and many more waiting to be found) the cataloguing and indexing of them is awful and frequently bizarre or inaccurate. Which I guess is part of the charm.

I managed to locate a whole bunch of images I’ve not seen before, or not seen in this quality – you can browse yourself at the Canal and River Trust photo archive by clicking here. Most are around the 40s-60s.

There are two in particular that will be of interest to the Walsall Wood Contingent: Place these folks. I have, and they’re very telling:

You may remember that a few years ago, I also featured similar archive images of the lost Lichfield Canal and others of the lost Grove Colliery on Lime Lane here – all from this archive.

All of these images can be obtained (for a fee of course) printed in much better quality by contacting the Canal & River Trust here.

Please have a good look, and see what you can spot – I think there are some good weekend talking points here. Comment here or mail me: BrownhillsBob at Googlemail dot com – or hit me up on social media.
