Turning turtle – highly unusual wildlife at Chasewater

Whilst bimbling around Chasewater this afternoon, trying out the bike after a spot of maintenance, I noticed this unlikely fellow basking in the sun, in the little pool on the Anglesey Basin side of the dam…

I guess he/she must be a long-ago discarded victim of the terrapin craze caused by the cartoon ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ – certainly not an indiginous resident. When I get a minute I’ll try and work out the exact species, unless anyone out there knows and can drop a comment?
