Money well spent?

Said to have cost £100,000, Walsall's new information signs seem to be currently live - at least this one is. Have we really spent so much to inform drivers of a legal requirement? 9:49am, Thursday, 12th May 2011.

I’m a bit puzzled at the purpose of these new signs erected on the main routes into Walsall. Similar ones in Birmingham were installed a decade ago, and hardly ever worked. This one seems cunningly placed to inform drivers there’s a problem when they’re trapped in a queue it’s too late to get out of… surely in these cash strapped times there are better uses for that kind of money.

Pathetic, isn’t it? I say that if people are thick enough to not bother with a seatbelt, let Darwin sort them out.

As you point out, any significant traffic even around Walsall pretty much gridlocks the lot, so being able to read about it while sitting in it isn’t a great help.

My experience of these signs on most roads is that they’re notoriously innaccurate anyway.

Ive said it before, but just look into the picture again here and just look how cluttered that little piece of road is with street furniture..!! Walsall is bl**dy terrible, especially down by the Arbo island into Walsall town centre. This pic here just confirms that street and environmental planning doesn’t exist in the skulls of Walsall Council.

I’d love to get my hands on that system and type in a few messages of my own!! Bob, what would you type in?!
