It’s the Stephen Sutton Big Yellow Parkrun at Chasewater this Saturday!

Stephen Sutton: An inspiration to us all. Image: Shropshire Star.

Pretty much every week I like to give Chasewater’s own Parkrun a plug – that’s the free to enter, social Saturday morning run organised totally by volunteers, part of the hugely popular national Parkrun phenomena.

Well, this week (Saturday 14th December 2019) Chasewater Parkrun is going yellow, and is rather special – I’ll let the organisers explain: This week it’s all for a great cause.

14th December 2019

We are extremely proud and excited to announce an event in honour of the most inspiring people to ever come from the area.

Stephen’s Story is the stuff of legends. It is both inspirational and uplifting. Stephen’s effort has now resulted in nearly £6 million for Teenage Cancer Trust.

So if you are coming to support a loved one, want to support the event but don’t fancy running / jogging /walking, on the injured list or saving yourself to take on Eliud Kipchoge in 2020 please come and lend a hand.

Huge thanks to Stephen’s Mum, Jane, who has kindly agreed for us to have the event In Stephens’s Name.

Jane will be starting the run and running with us on the day.

If you need further encouragement Jane is also providing Mince Pies as a Thank You to everyone who turns up. However, we think it’s only fair that if you have one you make a donation!

You don’t want to miss this one!

This is a fantastic thing for a great cause and it’s sure to be an uplifting, wonderful experience for all involved. That so much good should come from such tragic loss is so inspirational.

My best wishes and thanks to all taking part. Run it like you nicked the trainers, folks!

More info about Chasewater Parkrun from my usual weekly post:

It’s not competitive – except against your own personal best – it’s properly marshalled and you have to register, but it’s a free, friendly thing that’s hugely popular and a stunning demonstration of community in action.

It’s suitable for runners of all experience levels and paces. Find out more at the event page here or the event Facebook page here

Having run for years now at Walsall Arboretum and Cannock Chase, we now have a 5km Parkrun at Chasewater that happens every Saturday (events in the park permitting) – and has been attracting over 300 runners already!

It’s on this Saturday (14th December 2019) at 9:00am and the organisers have this to say:

What is Chasewater parkrun?

It is a 5km run – it’s you against the clock.

When is it?

Every Saturday at 9:00am.

Where is it?

The event takes place at Chasewater Country Park, Pool Rd, Burntwood, Brownhills, WS8 7NL. See Course page for more details.

What does it cost to join in?

Nothing – it’s free! but please register before your first run. Only ever register with parkrun once. Don’t forget to bring a printed copy of your barcode (request a reminder). If you forget it, you won’t get a time.

How fast do I have to be?

We all run for our own enjoyment. Please come along and join in whatever your pace!

Chasewater parkrun needs you!

It is entirely organised by volunteers – email chasewaterhelpers@parkrun.com to help.

We’re friendly!

Every week we grab a post parkrun coffee in the South Shore café – please come and join us!

Please, if you go for a run this Saturday, drop me a line and let me know how you get on – this is a fascinating thing and it’s growth is really wonderful. Comment here or mail me – BrownhillsBob at Googlemail dot com.

Just walking to the start shows the large number of runners already making this a great event! Image from Susan Williams.
