A quick enquiry here from reader Ann Horrell who’s looking for an acquaintance who she believes lived at Little Wyrley Hall in the early 1970s.

I am looking for a man that lived in Little Warley Hall in the early 1970s.
His first name was Bob and I think surname was Newton or something similar.
He was a teacher also an artist.
He sometimes played guitar at The Barrel folk Club in Heath Hayes. He lived in a wing of Little Wyrley Hall.

Yes I remember Bob Newton very well. He was my English lecturer whilst I was a student at Wednesbury College of Commerce during the mid 60’s and was well respected by all. I kept in touch with him for several years and last saw him in around 1990/2 – have to say he looked very poorly at that time but I didn’t ask any questions as it was not my place to do so. He was probably in his 70’s by then.

He painted a beautiful picture of his two Siamese cats that my mother bought from him when he was exhibiting at the Pelsall festival many, many years ago. Very fond memories of Bob
I was 17 or 18 And met Bob at our local folk club.He painted a few pictures of me and I remember the dress I wore well as I only had two at that time🤣Bob was very friendly with a folk group called White On Black who would stay with him at Little Wyrley Hall.I was involved in a conversation about Citroen cars and remembred him picking me up in his.I wonder what happened to all of his paintings I know there were quite a few .
I was 17or18 at the time.I met Bob at our local folk club .He painted a few pictures of me.I don’t know what happened to them.I remember the dress I was wearing as I only owned two at the time🤣Bob played guitar at the club and was friendly with a folk group called White On Black who often stayed with him at Little Wyrley Hall.His flat in the house was amazing with scenes from shakesperian plays painted on the furniture.

Hi, Poor old Bob died about 3 years ago.He was still living in the flat at Little Wyrley Hall.
I am very sorry to hear that.We had some happy times . I am glad he managed to stay at Little Wyrley.Thank you for replying.
