Just a quick note to point out that this Saturday 23 September 2017 there’s a rather unique event happening at Lock Five on the Birchills flightt of the Walsall Canal, which is being refurbished at the moment.

This is a great chance to inspect past and present canal engineering at its finest, right on our doorstep.

The open day is free to attend, and you can find out more at the event Facebook page here.

It’s set to be a good weekend for the weather, so why not pop down?

The Canal and River Trust said:

Lock Five gate replacement – a short report from the Canal and River Trust.

Come along to our Open Day at lock 5 on the Walsall Canal. Talk to our team of experts about the essential works they have carried out to the lock to ensure it can continue to be used by everyone.

There will be many activities on offer for visitors, including fishing taster sessions and canoeing.

Access to the towpath is off Birchill’s Street. There is no parking on site, however Lock 5 is a short walk along the towpath from the town centre.
