I thought I’d continue sharing the hugely popular run of archive images today from the immense Gerald Reece collection. This set is a miscellany of shots of local businesses, shops and landmarks all taken around the mid-1990s, with some oddities thrown in for good measure.
These images have been scanned by David Evans from Gerald’s material recently donated to the blog, and show an area whose High Street and industry are still diverse, but beginning to decay and fade.
I thank Gerald and David for yet another remarkable set – you are a very wonderful and generous gentlemen.
The donor of these remarkable images, Gerald Reece is of course a talented and superlative local historian, indeed now resident in Devon, who wrote the seminal work ‘Brownhills – A walk into history’ upon which this blog stands.

tand hanks for the tour of brownhills many memouries stired but also a tinge af sadness in respect of charactor and desine of mdern shop front so many gordy square signs ok ime an old fuuddy duddy and in my mind i can imagine those words ok old un hear we go again once upon a time a high street was full of culture and design window dressiing over the years they have become sqare concrete boxes with glass doors sorry for chunter i still enjoy my old brownhills god bless

Brings back memories, used to work for Britannic Insurance back in the 60’s.
I used to live in Brownhills and worked at Geometrix fir 10 yrs like lots of friends we did twighlight shift and our husbands worked next door at castings I see that Geometrix and Geometry have now gone loved my job there and people thanks for the memories but can you help at on the high St in browhills near to brikiln St used to be a posh boutique only a little shop front was owned buy Ray who had the indoor market I think his wife and daughter ran it does anyone know the name I think the daughter was Sharon I just can’t think of the name it would have been late 70s
I might be wrong, but I think it was Michelle Jaynes. I always thought they had 2 daughters, Michelle and Jayne. But I might be completely wrong 😏
