My condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

I would ask that people commenting on social media in response to this awful event be respectful and thoughtful, and note the Police have not formally identified the deceased as yet.

24TH NOVEMBER 2018

Police are appealing for information following a fatal collision on Walsall Wood High Street this morning (Saturday 24 November).

A 28-year-old pedestrian was struck by a Range Rover at around 12.30am. He was transported to hospital, but died a short time later.

Officers from our dedicated Family Liaison Team are supporting his family at this tragic time.

The driver of the Range Rover sped off, but handed himself in at a police station at around 8am this morning. He is being held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is co-operating with the police enquiry.

He informed officers where to find the vehicle; it’s now been seized and sent for forensic analysis.

Detective Sergeant Alan Hands from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:  “We’re currently in the process of piecing together what happened leading up to the collision; collating and reviewing CCTV footage, speaking to the suspect and taking statements from witnesses.

“It happened near to the Boatmans Rest pub, and I would urge anyone who can help us piece together the moments before this young man lost his life, to get in touch as soon as possible.”

Enquiries continue and anyone with information is urged to contact us via Live Chat at www.west-midlands.police.uk between 8am − midnight, or call 101 anytime.
