Since it was highlighted by reader John Snape in the thread about the Canal and River Trust’s bizarre installation of steps near Clayhanger, I’ve been pushing them to fix the horrid trip hazard on the north side of the bridge at Catshill Junction, Brownhills.
Initially, there was a concrete ramp which broke up and got worn away. Now there’s a sharp eight-inch step, which when approached from the far side is easily missed by walkers and cyclists and has caused several falls.
Today (15th September 2015), I had a message from the trust on Twitter, saying a crew will be out to repair it tomorrow.

I’ll be pleased if they do: I don’t trust the ability of my bike wheels to manage around 17st dropping down that, along with the risk of grounding something, so have to carry the bike over that.
I’ll never forget my first time over there on the bike, three years ago now (so that’s how long the repair has needed to be done) not knowing of the existence of ‘the drop’. I dropped and so did me and the bike to end, a over t in the grass and shrubs. Few bruises but no real harm done. I always dismount now but then I’m a wuss…apparently. Good news. I hope it’s a decent repair. Now for the towpaths in Aldridge…..
