Road accident on M6 Toll island this evening

I’ve had a load of enquiries about an accident tonight up by the M6 toll slip road island just off the A5195 and Ogley Hay Road north of the A5 between Chasetown and Hammerwich – as luck would have it, there’s a fairly full report on the West Midlands Ambulance Service newsfeed which I post in full below.

My sympathies to those involved.

Car Collides with Street Signs
Sunday 19th July 2015 – 9pm – Steve Parry

A woman has been airlifted to hospital after the car she was driving collided with several street signs in Brownhills this evening.

The crash happened at the junction of the M6 Toll exit with the A5 at about 7.15pm.

Two ambulances and a community paramedic were joined at the scene by a paramedic area support officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Tatenhill in Staffordshire.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: ‘On arrival, crews found a car that had collided with several street signs, resulting in significant damage to the vehicle.

‘The driver, a woman in her forties, was treated for a head, leg, back and pelvic injuries.

‘She was immobilised and given pain relief before being airlifted to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

‘A female passenger in her twenties received wrist and facial injuries. A male child aged 6 years suffered head injuries. A man in his twenties received neck pain.

‘All three patients were taken by ambulance to New Cross Hospital for further assessment and treatment.’

that motorway has been a waste of time money and lives since it opened

  2. BEE says:

IT WAS ALWAYS GOING TO BE A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY, THEY COMPLAIN NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE USE IT SO THEY PUT TOLL CHARGES UP RESULTING IN EVEN LESS USING WHEN WILL THEY SEE SENSE AND DROP THE CHARGES

  3. Wouldn't you like to know! says:

The M6 toll is over priced and as a result, under used but I can’t see how it would be responsible for somebody crashing their car, that can happen anywhere. And on another note, one actually related to the incident, I hope that the driver and her passengers make a speedy recovery.

  4. Eleanor says:

The company that owns the toll took a gamble in government policy being pay per mile driving so they built this to get the experience and understand the infrastructure better. Government policy didn’t go that way so they use the value of the land to leverage funding from banks on other projects. They don’t want people to use it because that would increase their up-keep costs.

Except this report is wrong the accident happened on the Shenstone island on the A5 at the base or junction of the A5148 southbound so NOT on the M6 toll slip road.
I know this as I drove past it last night whilst the air ambulance was in the field.

i cant believe there’s no action group about m6 toll!!
we were all made to understand that it would be constructed in order to alleviate the m6 nightmare.
all who live in it’s vicinity know that it’s always empty whilst the m6 is at a standstill!!!
it’s totally outrageous to me that hundreds of families have been displaced and financially
robbed to make way for it based on totally false promises. not to mention the billions the taxpayers have contributed, and now most of us cant afford, or wont on principle, use it
hence the m6 is still bedlam and will be for the foreseeable future.
Anyone above the age of twelve could predict that lowering m6 toll prices to a couple of quid
would triple its use, thereby alleviating m6 and validating it’s construction.
my conclusion is that the government is failing to act because they and their cronies, i.e. the better off want to keep it empty to use it as their personal raceway!!
Sorry Bob for going off topic, but ive been looking for any mention of this subject and to my disbelief there doesnt seem to be anyone sufficiently enraged to start a dialogue.
I welcome any other views in response.
