Right. Last night, I scored the quiz so far. I will do so again tonight. Here’s the results so far. I have also added two questions on this article which I forgot to put in the main one, and are rather good. Answer them here, on or the main quiz post.

I think some are easy and will leave you kicking yourselves. If you go for a walk or drive tomorrow, I think 1,2,8,9,18 are really easy for the observant and I’m surprised nobody has got them.
Some of the more obscure questions, the answers are in past articles. Think laterally. Some can work with the help of things like Google Earth/maps.

Q30. This looks like the buttress of the bridge that used to carry the Midland Railway over Chester Road, south of the old Brownhills West Station.

Yes, that’s right. I’ll give an extra point for that.
I’ll give you that, as I phrased it a bit badly. Yes, it’s the ghost-sign with the bridge ID number from the bridge you point out. It’s now just a retaining wall for an odd dip in the footpath alongside Chester Road, which unless you know the reason, loos somewhat odd.

Re question 11,
There seems some confusion over the location of this one, I have been out this morning and fortunately I did not have to go far, it is by the second bridge from Chasewater, after the toll road bridge, it connects the old Wharf lane to Whitehorse Rd, the inscription plaque on the bridge designates it as ‘BURNTWOOD ROAD BRIDGE’,and as some other guys have pointed out the slots were to take boards to stop the water flow. Interestingly enough I think they were used only a few months ago when as you spotted a dredging digger topled off a barge in the basin and had to be rescued, the water was stopped then yo get it out,

Brilliant, Fred. I was surprised this caused so much trouble.
The Anglesey branch has a slightly different design to the Wyrley and Essington, and was built later. There are four stopping off points, where the canal narrows under the original bridges – Lichfield Road, Chase Road, Watling Street and Wharf Lane. Near to each notch, there is a tally for the location number. This, as can be seen, is No. 4. They count in the direction the system was built (I assume), and that makes the Wharf Lane Bridge, or Burntwood Road Bridge as it’s properly known, the correct answer.
Q29 – Is this something to do with Pat Collins in Walsall Wood
As a pure guess the style of brickwork reminds me of Vernon Avenue or somewhere round there.
I’m in a bit of a quandary, you had the right street, but weren’t really specific enough. Dave Cottle really nailed that one, sorry.
However, I know there’s one you can snatch which you spotted in your recent researches.

Question 7 is to the north east of Brownhills. It has watery connotations.
The manhole in 12 has also featured on the blog, although it may take a bit of thought to answer the bolting aspect. Come on folks, where did I go nosing around?

Q29 – Number 124? Great Charles Street.corner near Vernon Ave.
Right, Emell, you win a point and a bonus prize.
It’s actually a trick question. Both 124 Great Charles Street and 1 Vernon Avenue have this plaque set into their bay window front sills. Vernon Avenue is harder to see on Streetview, but it’s there. Since the two houses are semi-detached, they were both the 1,000th House as they were built together. Both got a plaque.
I wouldn’t know any of this, but for the taker of the original photo, reader Facade66, who posted it a few months ago on Panoramio. It’s his image I used.
I can’t get my head around the 1,000 figure, and I’d really like to do the maths on that sometime. I can’t see there being 1,000 council houses in Brownhills at that time, but there must have been. It’s curious. I think the Hussey estate may only just been partially built (but that’s from memory), the Avenues (‘Garden City’) was there, and a fair few up The Wood, but were Saddler Road/Valley View etc built back then?
An interesting one.
