Interesting times up on Shire Oak at the moment. For the next six weeks, the Lichfield Road is going to be one-way between Shire Oak crossroads and Street’s Corner, downhill only, with a diversion round Lindon Road and temporary lights at Anchor Bridge, to enable replacement of gas mains. This is interesting, as there were identical operations 5 years ago for apparently the very same reason. Gas mains clearly ain’t what they used to be…
Meanwhile, it looks like the demolition of Shire Oak Reservoir is commencing. I noticed yesterday (Friday 17th July) that excavations were underway on the front edge at Lichfield Road, so I nipped up today to take some pictures. Clicking through these images will take you to the full size ones at Panoramio. I will, of course, keep taking a nosey to see what the works uncover.
If the dynamic reporters from the Express & Star are reading, it’s up on the Shire Oak Crossroads, you can’t miss it. Not twice, anyway.
Shame they couldn’t have waited another 2 days before closing the road.
Shire Oak school will be closed for the term and rush-hour traffic will have halved on Wednesday.
Good job on catching the photos. Most people don’t realise their importance for future generations.
